A couple of scans from reports from the 1967 Racing Car Show when drag racing had a true representation at what was a circuit racing show and the ad for the 2nd High Performance Motor Show held in Manchester at Stretford Road Drill Hall and organised by the Northern Division of the BHRA. I haven't been able to locate a report from the Manchester Show. Can anyone help.

Back to 1979 and some slides from my own collection taken at the National Custom Car Show, Feb 24th to Mar 4th at Ally Pally. I only had a basic camera in those days with a standard lens.

The Santa Pod stand included a row of drag cars and bikes fro Sue Coles Helzapoppin altered, Rod Pallent's LA Hooker to Owen Haywood's Chevy Vega Houndog seen in the distance.

Great pics Jerry! I didnt get to a London show until 82, so missed out on most of the classic stuff. I am trying to find pics of the Harrogate custom show in 80, it was a big one with the Pod bringing up Alligator etc and the big show cars from Baldy and co on display, also the debut of Jeans T etc ..

Also shown in your pics - Nick Butler's 'Vitamin T', Brian Bates 'Yesterday's Dreams', and the blue (my favourite version) of Speed Freak at that time in the hands of Peter Gottlieb.

A golden era for sure :)

I did see the 'Prisoner' T at a show at Southend airport in 83 .. be nice if that one was still around.

Thanks Darren. Its fortunate that I still have the Show Guides from the 1978/79 & 80 shows so that I can id some of the rod owners who's entry numbers are visible on the cars. I've got some more somewhere from other shows on trannie which I'll have to dig out but as you know all too well mate - its all down to time.

Yea I've got the guide from the 82 Ally Pally show still. I guess I was lucky to get to a few of these shows, because we had family in Southend I was taken to Ally Pally. We only lived 16 miles from Doncaster and I didnt get to that show until 88! The unfulfilled wish - I never got to Belle Vue, the offer was there in 83 but I thought it was all over by then there. I picked this DVD up at Billing last year, only about 20 mins long covers the 79 show, a real insight into the popularity of the 70's custom shows - the que's outside to get in! Captures well a very different and long gone era ..

That's correct John. I have some prints from the same show somewhere and I'm sure I took a shot of Pat's unusual bike. There's also a picture of it in the show guide.
