I remember my first visit to an NHRA meeting in 1973.
Down on the startline with my very downmarket camera gear and case, I got a sore neck looking up at all the top US guys perched an their step ladders holding their massive 6x7 Pentax cameras. They were a great bunch though, and there was some good banter with Steve Reyes and the other togs.
I have attached a pic of Joe Smith on the line riding his Harley. You can see some of the step ladders lined up alongside the strip. Me, I prefer to travel light anyway, and a stepladder would never have fitted in my suitcase anyway!
