I remember hearing somewhere that Jules ran his fuel bike whilst unemployed and in reciept of benefits. Can you imagine the headlines in the Daily Express / Daily Mail if anyone did that now? I only met Jules once, nice guy. Wonder where he is now...
Yeah, Jules was a sound guy. Had quite a chat with him at a Long Marston/Avon Park event. The engine in the bike (then) was a car engine, not 100% now, but an Alpha Romeo (??) maybe. Then again, most of the racers were a friendly bunch in them days, chat with you (if they weren't rushing to rebuild, etc), and so on. If memory serves, the bike was quite competative in it's class, be interesting to know where it, and Jules, went to.

I've been wrong before
Yes he did. I was in the barn when that happened. Obviously, I couldn't see what really happened as it went over the brow of the "hill". I do remember his partner was very upset on the startline. I don't think he ever ran again although I stand to be corrected.

I doubt if these shots were taken from a Bulldog Bash meet. However CS116 is Ian Thomas on the 750cc Noston The Combatter.

hi i used to crew for jules in the 90s when he was running the puma yamaha fuel bike,he did run it on a tight budget and i remember he had got it to run down into the mid 7s not long before the accident,if my memory serves me right my brother phil was there with him at a rwyb when he had the off! i spoke to jules shortly after and he reckoned the bike was doing 190 ish throttle stuck open so he got off the bike!!! he had quite bad injuries to his knees caused by skidding on his front for quite a way before digging his elbow in to turn himself over! ouch!!
i am pretty sure that there was some video footage about of the crash but i could be wrong anyhow i last saw jules and karen at the aug bank hol. super series at shakey in 98 and he did say that he had started on another bike whether or not the old frame was used i dont know. Anyway very clever bloke and a lovely couple!

Muddy....didn't really look at the 'background' when I see these that Jon had posted. Now I have after spotting your comment, and I kind of think you're right. Every Bulldog I went to (87-95) it was rammed. There were, around that time, some 'bike only' events (can't remember the name they went under, but the SuperTwins were one of the big features), they were like mini-Bulldog's, but with PROPER drag racing, not RWYB so much. I'm an old bike nut too, so I kinda did a lot of bike shots as well as cars. The bike events were great, was 'reminiscing' with a mate the other week about them - especially at Avon Park. Ho-hum, good old days and all that.

Hi, Yep great pics
That Pro Stock Bike 143 is Finnish rider Keijo " Keke " Ruuskanen. He was first guy from Finland to move in States over winter and built that bike there with help of Jarmo Pulkkinen.
