Just found this photo of the late John Rotherham's 'Avanti' Middle Dragster taken by Dave Derry in 1975 at one of the Rod & Custom Shows held at Birmingham's Bingley Hall. The Midland Drag Racing Association [MDRA] had a big presence at the show with a number of members cars and bikes on display including John's. I can remember dad being involved as stand designer and builder when he had this mad idea that once the vehicles were in position that we would spread white builders gravel all round the display. Great idea but he didn't bank on the amount of dust it created. Needless to say we didn't do it again, and Mick Cheley (who was running Super Bee at the time) went home with a boot full of the stuff in his Roadrunner!

Anyone out there recognise this rail? & perhaps the show, its a bad picture but it says on the sign bda cosworth, which looks like what the engine is, it was mixed up with a load of 78,79 & 80 ally pally & olympia pics but there may or may not be a connection?

If it was a BDA Cosworth of the late 1970s it was probably Steve Johnson's unless anyone else has a better suggestion. PIc makes it difficult to be sure.

I think you're right Brian, here's a pic from late '79. The fuel tank's in the wrong place but he did have it further forward in '78...

I thought it was something to do with Des Heckle looking at the AJS motor but came up with this from National Drag Racer mag Elvington 73 report

I think you might be right as its got this funny looking wedge beam breaker sticking out of the nose cone. I still think that device of Trevor's has some history behind it as well. Could very well be the same machine. I'll make some enquiries with the guys at the NSA.
