as the title says.......... but what i would really like is something modified back in the day using an overdrive unit or just a couple of gears??

if anyone hasn't scrapped the one they have had kicking about the garage for years, i would love to hear from you..

or if you can tell me what the "tweaks" were that would also be appreciated. :D .

sid you will like this. we use to smash all the teath of 1st gear with a hammer and chisel, then weld the gear stick in instead of rubber bushes. obviously rubbish ideas but we was only 15.now the mod you probably couldnt afford to do nowadays. On the front of your 5quid moss box with overdrive which incedently was so heavy it had its own gravity ,you put a bellhousing on from an xk 120 140 150,this had provision for a mechanical clutch pivot as apposed to hydraulic later we used an AP sintered bronze plate and a 2 ton pressure plate .Looking back it probably wasnt 2 ton but thats what we called it.this clutch and a set of 8 inch wide m@hs smashed every moss box we fed it.Eventually we put an all syncro e type box in it we didnt brake that.11.97 was best we ever ran when a 12 was good.By the way an all syncro gearbox e type that is. ie no overdrive or ali spacer is probably a 1000 pound note.I feel a powerglide coming on.KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK SID.

2toncarmen ran the same moss box, only my father used 1st to launch because he only had a 3.00 diff. As fester has said it used to eat the overdrive units, so the overdrive got welded up real tight and he had no more trouble. Well not until he rolled the origanal car at pod after borrowing some proper drag slicks to try and ran them too soft.

The rebuilt car (the one I'm rebuilding now) had a E Type box fitted (would quite like that back) and he was running low 11s and high 10s.

There is a 5 speed Leyland box (LT75) that was fitted to the XK engines towards the end of the production, this isnt a good box wouldn't advise that one. At the moment I'm looking to fit a Gatrag manual to my car, its much lighter and used on the AJ engined straight 6 Jags, as well as a few V12s. Plus it has a good rep for being strong & reliable.

If your set on the MOSS box, I've got an overdrive box in the garage if your interested, I have no clue if its been modified but it did come with the car. don't know its condition either but it rotates smoothly and changes through all gears.
