I remember that car ,im sure it was light blue with a yellow cross,i also bought a rear engined dragster in 1984ish which originally ran injected hemi in svensk ,it was just a roller the guys that bought it said they were going to put a jag engine in it ,as i waived it down the road with 400 quid in my pocket,i thought to my self,,never see that one again, :D it must be in someones garage

Dave
I like the look of the early rear engined cars [ mostly because of the Garlits cars from 1971-1975 ]. Most are gone or recycled into more modern stuff. Loads of people are building slingshots at present , and in the states, restorers are cottoning on to the early REDs as they are a big part of the history of Drag Racing.
I have just finished putting a new 7.50 cds steel saftey cell into just such a car. The old Richard Jarman 205" wheelbase cosworth V6 car that was run in the early eighties [ You probably raced agauinst it Dave? ]. It has Priddle bodywork and if it wasnt for that I wouldnt have bothered.I added 2" to the wheelbase behind the cell so a SBC/shorty glide combo would fit. I was going to sell the car but am in two minds to run my injected nitro Small block that I was to put into a digger.... hmmmm. Here is a pickie taken 2 days ago, just after I finished welding the chassis.

Thanks for the pics Nick
My original intention was to keep the Westminster rear end with the split rim wheels, but have now decided to put a 9" Ford in there to make sure it could handle the power to run 7.50s or quicker. When we tried to get the slicks off , we bent the rims because they had sat on there for 20 plus years....ended up binning them. The westminster rear axle which has a machined spool and not welded gears, which is the norm, will be put aside for a nostalgia digger project in the future. The body on this car is very nice, and is very 1973, without being offensive to Richard or Dennis as I believe it was built early eighties.
As an aside, what is the quickest and fastest run with a C series axle.....this car ran 8.60ish @ 160ish.

Run it.

I remember the car and I'm pleased you're saving it. You might be aware that I'm currently restoring my old Rough Diamond T, and I always wanted to run an injected nitro small block in that, trouble is, there isn't currently a class in which you could run it on nitro.

Anyway, i'd still like to know the identity of the old fueler!

This is subject that i tackled a member on the SPRC commity about . Nostalgia cars and classes. Super pro would seem to fit the bill . Seems its felt that too many classes dilute the racing.

They'd fit in Super Pro except for the fact that Nitro is not allowed in sportsman classes. This wasn't always the case as I remember Robin Read in Super Pro
