NASC Gary’s Picnic & Yanks Weekend 2012

Yanks Weekend & 34th annual Gary’s Picnic: 25/05/2012 – 27/05/2012

Shakespeare County Raceway is pleased to announce that the star spangled American banner is all set to be rolled out again for the drag strips sixth annual Yanks Weekend incorporating the 34th annual NASC Gary’s Picnic. Classic and late model strip and street Fords, Dodges, Pontiacs and Chevrolets will star in a celebration of all things US automotive.

The guys from the National Association of Street Clubs (NASC) have pledged their support towards the weekend along with the NASC’s 34th annual presentation of Gary’s Picnic; one of if not the oldest drag racing and rodding event on today’s calendar with a revised club race format.

Of course the central focal point for all three days will be the drag strip. Lining up to take central stage will be the Supercharged Outlaws. If it’s got a blower, a thumping V8 engine and it’s in a dragster, funny car, altered or doorslammer then it’s classed as a ‘true outlaw’ in every sense of the word. These are the maddest and baddest blown drag cars on the planet.

As with all American car shows the event relies on club participation and so far the response has been very encouraging indeed especially with the added attractions of mighty trucks and rigs, a charity fund raising genuine American Crown Victoria Police Cruiser, the girls from the Coventry Dynamite Cheerleaders, oval racers of Mascar (Miniature Association of Stock Car Racers, a round of the Outlaw Street drag racing ‘doorslammer’ series and our recent acquisition to the line up; the return of the mighty SVT European Shootout for the mighty Ford Lightening Trucks. Dare you miss out…!!!
And that’s not all. Following the conclusion of the days racing on Saturday, we intend to hold a burnout competition for the many serious “smokers” amongst us, and to top off proceedings on the Saturday night, the very popular Coventry based band “Insomnia”, will be blasting out an energetic set on stage so best bring you’re ear plugs for this band as “Tony” the drummer, only does things extra loud!

Big Bucks Gambling also comes to the raceway in Shakespeare County’s unique Bracket Gamblers Race where the winner and runner up of the dial your own ET Bracket Race could be going home with some money, trophies and other goodies from the tracks many supporters.

All makes and models from any eara of the American muscle car revolution are welcome at the strip and set up a car club stand as well as take part in any of the on track competitions.

So if you own an American car and you fancy seeing how many horses still remain under the bonnet, come and pound the track at Shakey. Strike the date in your diary as a must see event this year; May 25th/27th at Shakespeare County for Yanks Weekend. It’s gonna be a blast!
