The Hot Rod Drags is Europe’s original and best nostalgic hot rod and drag racing event.

See you there.
Supercharged Outlaw co-ordinator Dave McKenzie has been in touch with news of whose in at the Hot Rod Drags.
You wait all winter for the season to start and here we are at the Hot Rod Drags; the final round of Supercharged Outlaws 2012 series. This is going to be the big one with 18 teams confirmed. Add in the Wilder at Heart Dodge Charger Funny Car of Rockin’ Ramon this and to date this will be the biggest field of Supercharged Outlaws I can ever remember!
With the series all but won by the Speed Demon team of Vic Hammond and driver Sam Freeman on 182 pts all they need to do is to simply turn up and go two rounds! With 182 points to there credit the Hammond & Freeman team cannot be caught even by Alec Coe in the Shy Talker slingshot who’s in second place on 126. But, as we all know in drag racing nothing is guaranteed until the fat lady sings as there could be yet another twist in the tale to come!
Third place is also up for grabs between Andy Hadfield with the Twister Model T altered at 110, Paul Watts in the No Easy Pick Up on 96, and outside bets Lee Gallimore with the Red Mist altered (82) and Team Thing on 80 could sneak in at the eleventh hour and steal away the place.
There should be some really good match racing as well between the two Chevy trucks of Chas Chivers and Paul Watts, three Funny Cars with Steve Goode in the Pontiac Trans Am Firebird bodied Ghost Train (Steve seems to have a handle on the car now), Trace Froome in the Ultra Racing Dodge Avenger Funny Car and the Wilder at Heart ’71 Dodge Charger of Ramon all the way from Netherlands.
And what about the Doorslammers with eight cars which includes Simon Cooper’s Chevy Nova, Ian Kerr in the newly imported Pontiac Firebird which could be in the seven second bracket this coming weekend, and one of the fans favourites is back; the stars and stripes ’53 Corvette of Ian Hanson fresh from a successful European Finals running in the 7.3s. Newcomers to the Outlaws are Simon Boot’s Z28 Chevy Camaro and Martin Green Plymouth Duster looking to mix it up a bit.
In the altered category big hitters at this event will be Joe Bond and the low six second Nuthin Fancy Fiat Topolino. Another big altered to watch out for is Brian Gandy Skullduggery Model T capable of running as low as 7.2 at speeds closing in on the 200mph zone. Clive Bush also back out with the Crazy Horse altered.
And who can forget Mr Entertaining (nicknamed by track announcer Jerry) Lee Gallimore with the Red Mist altered! Lee is famous for his long smoky burnouts and wild guardrail to guardrail runs. Alongside Lee will be Dave Mac in the Team Thing altered. After nearly going flying at the top end in 2011 this year Dave decided to try two wheel burnouts at the Bulldog Bash much to the delight of the crowd. The team’s 5 window coupe altered may not be the quickest altered in the group but it sure does attract a lot of attention especially the drivers on and off the track! Not to be out done for the burnout title is Andy Hadfield in the Twister. So expect some excellent match ups between these over the weekend.
So whatever’s your favourite style of car; Doorslammer, Pick Up Truck , Altereds, Slingshots or Funny Cars the Supercharged Outlaws has it all with exciting side by side burn outs and guardrail to guardrail action. You need to be at the Hot Rod Drags to see it.
The final round of the series is being sponsored by Jim Maher of Good Vibrations Motorsport, California. So from all the Supercharged Outlaw racers and fans would like to take this opportunity to thank Jim and all the staff at Good Vibrations for their continued support for the fastest growing class in the UK. See you at the drags!

More than 200 show quality Street Rods and American Muscle Machines are expected to converge on the raceway for the 24th annual running of the original Hot Rod Drags co-ordinated by the National Street Rod Association in two action packed days of ‘street legal drag racing’ for pre ’73 high dollar hot rods and big block custom cars from the days before decimal.
The fifties was indeed the cornerstone for drag racing and it’s events like this and the Original Hot Rod Drags race in September which help to recreate the golden days of hot rodding on disused airfield’s and the dry lake beds. Where else can you expect to see period Flathead roadsters and coupes, 200 mph blown methanol injected hot rods, ground thumping dragsters, big blocked Fiats and classic blown Willys Coupes? At the Original Hot Rod Drags of course!
Adding spice to the mix are the high riding gassers known as the ‘nose high marauders’ Gasser Circus featuring high riding ‘door cars’ from the 40s, 50s and 60s. Along for the ride will be the Custom Car magazine supported Flathead Meltdown Challenge where side valve engines still reign supreme and last, but certainly no means least, the full on power from the awesome Outlaw Anglia class will be here to entertain in a class dedicated to Dagenham’s finest ‘sit up and beg’ Anglias, Populars, Prefects and Fordsons.
Within the ranks of the nostalgia world expect to see out and out racers in the Wild Bunch class; a class which runs front engined ‘slingshot’ dragster and altereds where straight six Jaguars rub shoulders with Buick ‘nailheads’ as well as all kinds of Fords, Chryslers and of course Chevy V8’s.
There will be a full trade village selling everything from T-shirts, books, DVDs, models and stickers. Evening entertainment includes burlesque dancers, bands and a disco both nights.
